Nanotechnology education in Hanover ever more popular

Record numbers of beginning students in bachelor nanotechnology

Because of the double cohort Abitur (the German final exams that pupils take at the end of their secondary education) and the abolition of compulsory military service this year have enrolled many more students to the Lower Saxon universities, on average there are 20% more. At the Leibniz Universität Hannover the biggest growth in comparison within the country with 43% is reported.

The nanotechnology bachelor, initiated by the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering in charge, has even more. Last year 40 students started with the bachelor nanotechnology, now even 65 students have begun, representing an increase of 62.5%. The interdisciplinary curriculum is offered jointly by the faculties of electrical engineering and computer science, mechanical engineering, mathematics and physics and the natural sciences. The bachelor's program in nanotechnology is possible at the Leibniz Universität Hannover for three years; this winter semester 2011/12 started in addition the continuing master's program nanotechnology.
