LNQE successfully evaluated

Formal establishment as a Research Center of the Leibniz Universität Hannover.

The presidium of the Leibniz Universität Hannover established the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering (LNQE) in its meeting of 5.11.2008 now official as an interdisciplinary research centre, after previous evaluations by the Wissenschaftliche Kommission Niedersachsen (WKN).

Research centres have international and scientific visibility of the project. The cooperation extends beyond the borders of faculties and subjects and includes also the participation of external research institutions. The research centres are evaluated periodically (every five years).

The evaluation by the WKN was lead by Prof. Abstreiter / TU München. The evaluation report says in summary (translated from German):

"Vital goal of the LNQE is the control of materials on size scales of micron- and nanometers, the study of expected new materials and systems properties, as well as the their transfer in new applications. This research area is very most up-to-date and world wide arise similar centres in many universities and research facilities. The national and international competition is exceptional large and enormous efforts and innovative ideas are needed to take a leading role here. This will presumably succeed only in some subareas. A specialty of the LNQE is the very broad interdisciplinary formation, which lets expect unusual synergies, like there are possible only in few other sites.

The establishment of the LNQE as a research centre of the Leibniz Universität Hannover is recommended by the referees unanimously and with force. "
