New Member from Gravitational Physics

Prof. Dr. Michèle Heurs

Professor Heurs heads the Quantum Control working group at the Institute for Gravitational Physics

The Quantum Control group is mainly concerned with the stabilisation of optical systems that exhibit noise at or below the quantum level. Prof. Dr. Michèle Heurs' current research interests are in the following areas:

  • quantum noise reduction schemes for interferometric gravitational wave detectors (e.g. coherent quantum noise cancellation)
  • non-classical light sources (high-frequency optical parametric oscillators)
  • laser physics (including laser stabilization, novel locking schemes, and non-linear optics)
  • precision metrology (e.g. interferometric gravitational wave detection, stable high finesse optical resonators, spectroscopy)
  • high-frequency large bandwidth low-noise photodetection (single and homodyne detectors)
  • modeling of micro-optomechanical oscillators / membranes
  • classical, modern, and coherent control
