DFG Research Units on Quantum Physics in Gases and in Nanowires

Two research units coordinated by LNQE members

Particular success for members of the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering (LNQE) of the Leibniz Universität Hannover in the program "Research Units" of the German Research Foundation (DFG):

The research unit "From Few to Many-Body Physics with dipolar quantum gas" is new established, the first funding period is three years. Research will be undertaken on dipolar forces of ultracold gases. Spokeswoman of the new research unit is LNQE Member Prof. Silke Ospelkaus from the Institute of Quantum Optics.

The DFG research unit "Metallic nanowires on the atomic scale: Electronic and vibrational coupling in real world systems" will be extended after a very positive evaluation for another three years. The research focuses on smallest nanowires that represent a quantum mechanical one-dimensional systems. In particular, the coupling of the wires to the outside world is of great interest. The two speakers of the research unit are the LNQE members Prof. Christoph Tegenkamp and Prof. Herbert Pfnür from the Institute of Solid State Physics, Department ATMOS.

Congratulations from LNQE!
