The Institute of Electronic Materials and Devices deals with novel developments for future silicon-based nanoelectronics. The research focuses on new, especially crystalline materials and material combinations (epitaxial heterostructures) as well as device concepts on silicon. One of Dr.-Ing. Jan Krügener's main areas of research, in close cooperation with partners from solar energy research, is the transfer of know-how from micro and nanoelectronics to photovoltaic applications. He is also involved in the planning of process engineering procedures for the fabrication and characterisation of semiconductor structures.
